Care & Maintenance

Keep your stone looking installed-yesterday.

Stone is forgiving when you know its rules. Here's exactly how to clean, seal and protect each material we fabricate — and when it's worth calling us instead.

Granite

Daily
Warm water, mild dish soap and a soft cloth. Wipe spills promptly — especially oil, wine and citrus.
Periodic
Reseal every 1–3 years. Test it: leave a few drops of water for 15 minutes; if it darkens, it's time to seal.
Avoid
Vinegar, bleach, ammonia, abrasive powders and generic all-purpose sprays that strip sealer.

Quartz

Daily
Soap and water or a non-abrasive cleaner. Non-porous, so nothing soaks in.
Periodic
No sealing ever. For dried residue, use a plastic scraper and a mild cleaner.
Avoid
Direct heat from pans, high-pH cleaners, bleach and harsh solvents — heat and strong chemicals can dull the resin.

Marble

Daily
pH-neutral stone cleaner and a soft cloth. Blot acidic spills immediately rather than wiping.
Periodic
Seal regularly and expect a natural patina over time. Honed finishes hide etching best.
Avoid
Lemon, vinegar, tomato, wine and any acidic cleaner — these etch the surface, not just stain it.

Quartzite

Daily
Warm water and mild soap; pH-neutral cleaner for a deeper clean.
Periodic
Seal periodically — less often than marble, similar to granite.
Avoid
Acidic cleaners and abrasive pads. Use trivets under very hot cookware as a habit.

Universal habits

Four rules for every stone.

  • Always use cutting boards — stone will win against your knives.
  • Use trivets and hot pads, even on heat-resistant granite.
  • Blot spills instead of spreading them, and never let standing water sit on seams.
  • Skip abrasive scouring pads and powdered cleansers on every stone type.

When to call us

Chips along an edge or sink cutout, a hairline crack, a seam separating, a stubborn stain that won't lift, or a surface that no longer beads water. We repair countertops we didn't install, too.
